Edward Cutbush, Maidstone

Ed CUTBUSH MAIDSTONE.
A good example of a Kentish Lantern clock in a very fine state of preservation. The dial is signed in the centre above leafy scrolls with deep frets of a distinctive pattern to front and sides, the front engraved. The side doors show every sign of being original while the back, although much repaired, is certainly of great age. Original anchor escapement with hour strike on a bell. Date: Circa 1705 Height: 15 ½ inches. * For a history of "this most prolific and interesting family" see Kent Clocks & Clockmakers where a very similar clock is illustrated. |
